The Freedom Ryderz have begun planning for the annual Anniversary Bash, which is being scheduled for August 2008. This promises to be an exciting and large event with multiple rides, several vendors, numerous events and an outdoor concert featuring Randy Owen (Alabama lead vocalist). The Freedom Ryderz will be working with the Fort Gordon MWR Program to coordinate activities for this event. We will be launching a new web site dedicated to this event in the near future.

The Freedom Ryderz will be holding Club Elections in a Special Meeting, to be held in June. All Club Officer positions are available and will be elected. including :

  • Club President
  • Club Vice President
  • Club Secretary
  • Club Treasurer

The new Club Officers will be installed during the meeting in July. Once the new club officers are installed, the new Club President may appoint one or more of the following club officers :

  • Mentorship Manager
  • Photographer
  • Safety Officer
  • Seargeant At Arms
  • Web Site Administrator
  • Membership Manager

If you have any interest in any of these positions, please let that be known (email: admin@freedomryderz.com). The Club president will be appointing an Elections Committee, during the May meeting, for the purpose of determining which club members have an interest in running for office. The Election Committee is responsible for submitting the names of interested club members and preparing the election ballots for the June elections.

The Freedom Ryderz are pleased to announce the opening of the Freedom Forum. It's a casual place to exchange ideas, stay up to speed on the latest and greatest changes, learn about future rides and several other important issues. Once you access this area, please register with the system so you can be given the appropriate permissions. Click on the 'Freedom Forums' link on the left side navigation bar.

The Freedom Ryderz conducted a Safety Ride in support of the Army's Motorcycle Mentorship Program. We had a 13 bikes show up for this event and enjoyed a ride in the brisk weather which included a lunch stop at T&L meals in Grovetown. CW4 Eakins, from the Combat Readiness Center joined us for this event. We have a few pictures available in the photo gallery.

The Freedom Ryderz launches the first class for the purpose of Mentor Training and Certification. Click here for the details.

Members from The Freedom Ryderz conducted a fund raiser at the Main Exchange, Fort Gordon Georgia. It was fantastic to see and receive all of the support that was so generously provided by the Fort Gordon Community.

Raising funds is a necessary evil as The Freedom Ryderz continues to grow our membership and attempt to gain public awareness for the club and the Motorcycle Mentorship Program.

We certainly appreciate the support that was shown to us, and the dedicated members of The Freedom Ryderz that participated in this fantastic event.

Ray Jones, who attended the trip to Deals Gap, has provided this commentary :

SLAYING THE DRAGON Well, what can I say, we just got back from “slaying the Dragon” at Deals Gap, North Carolina. The group Dennis Yelverton, Dave Richardson, Katie Sunderland, Victor and Suzy Rivera, Ray and Linda Jones departed at 8:00am, from the McDonalds on the corner of Tobacco and Windsor Spring Road. The temperature was a brisk 42 degrees; we took the scenic route HWY 79 to HWY 129 arriving “Deals Gap” 3:15pm. The route was absolutely picturesque; no one told us to prepare ourselves for the breath taking visions that would unfold with each turn; such as, the magnificent log cabin homes nestled on the side of the North Carolina Smoky Mountains; mother natures display of vibrant autumn leaves reflecting off of the Santeetlah Lake and mountainous ranges as far as the eye can see. We immediately checked into our rooms and met at the start point at 4:00pm to make our first run at the Dragon. We were armed with the appropriate dragon slaying gear, leather, helmet, gloves, goggles, a collective 8000 cubic inch of engine and attitude. At the onset we immediately felt the wrath of the dragon while attempting to navigate multiple metal scraping 180 degree turns at a breath taking 5,390 feet. (Bottom line: this is no place for someone with a fear of heights). And if that is not challenging enough while you are trying to hold your line in a 180 degree turn you have to try to avoid the Honda S2000’s, Porches, Corvettes etc. that are pulling off a stunt call “Drifting” (See the movie “The Fast and the Furious Tokyo Drift” to get an idea of what I am talking about) which is the difference between you slaying the Dragon or becoming a part of the landscape. The ride was not without causalities; an unlucky couple riding a crotch rocket felt the whip of the Dragons Tail because they did not ride within their capabilities. Fortunately, the passenger was evacuated on a backboard with traction harness. Finally, we could not have asked for a better group Dennis prepared the route and provided sage information at key points (I think he has done this a time or two). Katie was the group “live wire” she led the group to and from “The Gap”; after all she is a native of the area (Thanks Katie we could not have done it without you). Dave what’s up with those pipes? Your Harley Road King is tuned and ready to go… Victor and Suzy I will ride with the two of you anytime anywhere you are a great couple. Linda, my wife thanks for driving the truck and pulling the trailer, when it got miserably cold I am confident that you were in everyone’s thoughts. WATCH OUT DRAGON…. BE PREPARED TO BE SLAYED AGAIN SOON!!!!!

The Freedom Ryderz Club Logo is done! A special thanks to Mr. Adam Connor for his work on the design. The logo was approved at the September meeting and effective immediately, will be used on all offical club correspondence and printed material. The new logo will also be used to create the club colors, club patches and T-Shirts which will be available soon. The Club Patches have been ordered, and should be available some time in November.

The Freedom Ryderz Club patches, featuring the new design created by Adam Connor have been received and are currently available to all members. To purchase your patch, please contact the Club Secretary. Patches will be on sale before and after every monthly club meeting.

Freedom Ryderz conducted our First Anniversary Ride in July. The event registration point at Freedom Park, Fort Gordon, was open from 8am until the ride began at 10am. We were privledged once again to have the USARSO Commander, BG Keen join us in the ride. Key organizations on the installation provided support for the event including the installation Safety Office and the Provost Marshall's Office. A total of 35 motorcyclists participated in the event which included a fantastic ride through the surrounding communities and back to the Club House for barbecued hot dogs and hamburgers with all the trimmings, including chips and drinks.

Photos of this event are posted in the photo gallery.

Freedom Ryderz held a Car and Bike Wash adjacent to the Huddle House on Fort Gordon. A number of ryderz came out to support the club and help raise money for future activities.

A number of activities are in the planning stages.

All of the photos are available in the photo gallery.
